The 60-passenger vessel will navigate Colombia’s Magdalena River
AmaWaterways says it has “opened a new chapter” with the launch of its first river ship in Colombia.
The 60-passenger vessel will navigate the South American country’s Magdalena River.
The introduction of AmaMagdalena is being hailed as a “significant milestone” for the company and a “transformative breakthrough” for tourism in Colombia.
Onboard amenities include a sun deck pool, fitness room, a main restaurant and an al fresco speciality dining venue.
Prices start at £4,255 per person, including a £375pp discount, for a seven-night Wonders of Colombia cruise from Cartagena to Barranquilla departing on October 11, including return flights and overseas transfers, meals and drinks during lunch and dinner, daily cocktails and small group excursions.
AmaWaterways will add a sister ship, AmaMelodia, on the river later this year, further expanding the company’s presence in Colombia, a new region to its offerings beyond Europe, Asia and Africa.
Co-founder and chief executive Rudi Schreiner said: “Our expansion into Colombia represents a new chapter for AmaWaterways and for the world of river cruising.
“We are proud to be the first major river cruise line to explore the Magdalena River, a region that until now has been largely inaccessible.
“AmaMagdalena opens the door to a culturally rich destination, and we’ve worked closely with local communities to ensure our presence benefits everyone involved - from our guests to the people who call this river home.”
Tourism body ProColombia has supported the firm’s expansion into the country.
President Carmen Caballero said:“The launch of AmaWaterways operations in Colombia marks a new chapter for our tourism. It is not only a sign of trust in our country but also an opportunity to show the world why Colombia is the country of beauty.
"The Magdalena River will become a showcase of our traditions, biodiversity, and hospitality.”
