Keel-laying ceremony held in Egypt ahead of 2028 launch
Abercrombie & Kent has begun construction of its second newbuild Nile riverboat ahead of its launch in 2028.
The operator held a keel-laying ceremony at The Arab Contractors’ shipyard in Egypt for the 64-passenger, as-yet-unnamed vessel, which will join Nile Seray, an A&K Sanctuary, following its launch in late 2026.
Like its sister ship, the new vessel will feature 32 suites, including two with private balconies and outdoor spa pools.
There will also be two restaurants, a spa with two treatment rooms and a gym. The top deck will house canopied daybeds, a swimming pool and an outdoor bar.
The vessel will offer four-night voyages between Aswan and Luxor, with access to archaeological sites, such as the tombs of Nefertari and King Tutankhamun, as well as cultural experiences including felucca (a traditional Egyptian boat) sailing, cooking classes and entertainment.
Chief executive of Abercrombie & Kent Travel Group (AKTG), Cristina Levis, said: “Celebrating this keel laying represents another important step in our commitment to Egypt. The construction of this second vessel reflects both the tremendous interest we’ve seen from travellers and our confidence in Egypt’s enduring appeal as a destination.
“Working with The Arab Contractors demonstrates our dedication to Egyptian craftsmanship and supporting the local economy.”
