Florence property currently undergoing extensive 18-month renovation
Belmond is set to reopen Villa San Michele in Florence on April 28 next year following an 18-month renovation.
The property’s existing structure, housed in a former 15th-century monastery, has been restored, maintaining its Michelangelo-inspired façade, original chapel and terraced gardens.
There will be 39 redesigned and expanded rooms and suites, as well as three new signature suites, including Limonaia, featuring a private garden and heated plunge pool; The Grand Tour, set across the property’s entire first floor; and Botanica, located within the hotel’s woodland.
The reopening will also unveil the property’s first-ever spa, the Villa San Michele Spa by Guerlain, featuring a “secret garden” entrance and three treatment rooms, including one double suite.
Guests can explore newly landscaped gardens with hidden nooks and viewpoints, varied flora and a herb and kitchen allotment, which supplies the hotel’s restaurants.
At La Loggia, chef Alessandro Cozzolino will debut a new tasting menu celebrating Tuscan heritage and local ingredients.
The brand said the renovation “underscores Belmond’s unwavering dedication to preserving history and cultural significance”.
Villa San Michele general manager Sofia Peluso added: “For us, hospitality is deeply intertwined with cultural immersion. Guests can embark on a journey that weaves together food, art, history, architecture and nature – a true fusion of body, mind and soul and a modern-day echo of the Renaissance principles that have shaped our history.”
The reopening of Villa San Michele joins renovation projects across Belmond’s portfolio, including Splendido in Portofino, Hotel Cipriani in Venice, and Maroma in Mexico.
