AmaMelodia follows the debut of AmaMagdalena earlier this year
AmaWaterways has debuted its second ship on the Magdalena River in Colombia.
AmaMelodia follows the debut of the AmaMagdalena earlier this year, marking the first major river cruise line to explore the country.
The new 64-passenger ship will offer two seven-night itineraries: Magic of Colombia and Wonders of Colombia.
The vessel’s design and operation features handmade art by local artisans and cuisine with local ingredients.
Excursions include a private performance of the Barranquilla Carnival, an exclusive jazz concert in Mompox and a visit to Palenque, the first free town in the Americas.
AmaWaterways chief executive Catherine Powell said: “After seeing the incredible response to AmaMagdalena earlier this year, we are thrilled to welcome AmaMelodia to the AmaWaterways fleet.
“Launching these two ships has been an extraordinary collaboration with our Colombian partners.
“Together, we are not only creating unforgettable travel experiences for our guests but also helping to build a sustainable foundation for tourism that benefits local communities along the river.”
AmaWaterways chief brand ambassador Kristin Karst said the operator has been working “closely” with Colombia partners over the last three years to reach this point.
She added: “Seeing AmaMelodia set sail is very meaningful to me.
“AmaMelodia is a celebration of that culture and a beautiful example of what can be achieved through true collaboration and respect for local heritage.”
Carmen Caballero, president of the promotion agency for the country, ProColombia, said: “The Magdalena River is a symbol of national identity and a hub for sustainable development.
“Seeing how river tourism is giving it new meaning, connecting travellers with our traditions, landscapes, and communities, reflects the type of tourism we want to promote at ProColombia: responsible, inclusive and transformative.”
