Kenyan safari camp open in time for Great Migration in July-August
Virgin Limited Edition’s Mahali Mzuri safari camp in Kenya’s Maasai Mara has reopened after an interior redesign.
The camp first opened in 2013 and was designed to protect the route of the famous Great Wildebeest Migration, which typically takes place in July and August.
The camp’s 12 tented suites now feature floor-to-ceiling glass walls for “the ultimate panoramic viewing experience of the diverse wildlife and verdant valley beyond”.
Each suite features king-size or twin beds, a lounge area, walk-in shower, free-standing bath and private viewing deck. The family suite features both a king bed and twin beds, along with two en-suite bathrooms.
The design of the suites’ interiors has been inspired by Maasai culture, with textiles and furnishing from local craftsmen and suppliers.
The Maasai influence is also visible in new black and red cabanas by the camp’s infinity swimming pool.
The restaurant, bar and communal firepit seating area have also been refreshed.
James Bermingham, chief executive of Virgin Hotels Collection, said: “I am delighted to be unveiling the new-look Mahali Mzuri as we go into the Great Migration season.
“We strive to create the most extraordinary experiences for our guests, and we’re excited to be able to offer an even more luxurious safari experience, along with a seamless connection to the surrounding nature and authentic local Maasai culture.”
Rates for tented suites at Mahali Mzuri start at $3,100 per night, including all food and drinks and twice-daily game drives.
