More-spacious suites introduced at andBeyond Phinda Zuka Lodge
Africa specialist andBeyond reopened one of its South African properties following “thoughtful” renovations on December 18, 2025.
Located within Phinda Private Game Reserve, the redesign of andBeyond Phinda Zuka Lodge has preserved the property’s original framework and “intimate” feel.
Each of the lodge’s four suites, which overlook the secluded waterhole, has been enlarged with a private outdoor terrace, while a Family Suite has been introduced to better cater for multigenerational bookings.
The boma (communal area) has also been reimagined to create a “more open, immersive setting” featuring a fire pit overlooking the newly landscaped waterhole.
Redesigned interiors have introduced “richer textures, warmer tones and handcrafted details” to create a space that feels “both familiar and entirely new”.
In line with andBeyond’s conservation strategy, the project prioritised sourcing local materials and supporting regional artisans.
Managing director for South African Lodges, Kevin Pretorius, said: “Drawing inspiration from the name Zuka, meaning ‘dawn’, the visual concept celebrates new beginnings while honouring the lodge’s heritage as the home of one of the reserve’s founding families.
“Infused with bohemian warmth, African craft and textures of clay, wood and woven materials to create a space where heritage meets purpose, Zuka’s redesign is not just aesthetic. Every corner invites reflection, and every stay offers the freedom to roam and the comfort to return, regardless of age.”
