Hotel will be Niagara Falls’ first five-star boutique stay
Toronto’s historic former power station is set to become a luxury hotel through a public-private partnership with Niagara Parks.
Scheduled to open in 2029/30, Toronto Power will be developed into a waterside hotel with views of Niagara Falls.
Following a $200 million renovation, the hotel will house an estimated 169 rooms alongside multiple viewing areas overlooking the Falls including an outdoor café.
A variety of culinary offerings and a craft brewery will both be on-site, as well as a wellness spa.
The building will also host a theatre, museum and art gallery, with educational and event programming.
The power station ceased operations in 1974, and Niagara Parks accepted ownership of the site in 2007. The Parks is not investing capital in the project but will remain as a strategic partner.
Contributors to the project include Society Developments Inc., VG Architects, MT Planners and Pearle Hospitality, the latter having previously worked on heritage redevelopment projects including The Elora Mill Hotel and Spa, The Cambridge Mill, The Ancaster Mill and Whistler Bear Golf Course.
Brian McMullan, director of business development and spokesperson for Toronto Power Hotel Inc., said: “Our vision for this project will let visitors enjoy the Falls experience in exactly the type of breathtaking hospitality venue that one of Canada’s foremost natural wonders deserves.”
