The property has been operating under sister brand Fairmont since 2010
Raffles Hotels & Resorts is set to add Peace Hotel Shanghai to its portfolio in 2027.
The art deco property was built in 1929 by Sir Victor Sassoon as the Cathay Hotel and has been owned by Shanghai-based tourism and hospitality company Jinjiang International Group since 1984.
The hotel has operated under Fairmont Hotels & Resorts since 2010. Following a renovation, the property will transition to sister brand Raffles and reopen as Raffles Peace Hotel Shanghai in 2027.
Parent brand Accor, which owns both Raffles and Fairmont, said the Raffles brand would “inject new vitality into this historical landmark”, with the refurbishment set to “capture the spirit of modern Shanghai” while preserving the property’s original art deco features, which are protected by the National Key Cultural Relic Protection Unit.
Omer Acar, chief executive at Raffles Hotels & Resorts and Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, said: “This magnificent hotel is a precious gem and a landmark in an all-important destination. As the stewards of such an iconic property, we are exceptionally proud to guide it into a glamorous new era with Raffles.”
Dong Qing, general manager of Shanghai Peace Hotel Co, added: "As a century-old cultural landmark in Shanghai, the new Peace Hotel will not only blend history and modernity, but also provide a fresh way to share the story of Shanghai with global guests.
“Guests will not only experience classic Shanghai style, but also enjoy the prestige of international luxury hospitality. By making history tangible and culture immersive, we are keeping alive the cherished cultural heritage of the Peace Hotel.”
