Brand will transform a 12th-century historic site into an 89-key hotel
Capella Hotels and Resorts will open its first European property in 2027.
Capella Florence will be located in the Tuscan capital, close to the cultural hubs of Piazza della Libertà and the Duomo.
The brand has partnered with Italian architectural firms RPA and De Vita & Schulze to transform the 12th-century Via San Gallo complex – which once housed the convents of Sant’Agata, San Clemente and Santa Lucia di Camporeggi and served as a military hospital – into an 89-key hotel.
Guests will be able to choose from 56 rooms, 33 suites and 10 residences.
The hotel will feature two restaurants offering local Tuscan cuisine and Japanese sushi omakase as well as a rooftop bar and an underground speakeasy wine bar.
A Clubhouse will house a large hydro pool, fitness centre and cafe, while an indoor amphitheatre will “pay homage to the site’s 800-year-old tradition of creativity and cultural exchange”.
Cristiano Rinaldi, president at Capella Hotel Group, said: "In a destination as rich and layered as Florence, we are honoured to collaborate with a world-renowned architect and interior designer who share our dedication to crafting spaces that respect local history while creating meaningful connections for today’s luxury traveller.
“It is a privilege to be entrusted with the renewal of this historic part of Florence’s cultural and communal heritage."
