A stay at Sarara Wilderness personifies camping in style. This exclusive-use mobile camp is slightly removed from the other Sarara properties, set in the Samburu National Reserve on one of the last-remaining community-owned pieces of land within a government-owned area. Up to six en suite tents can be erected, with all the creature comforts clients could need, from indoor heated bucket showers to power outlets and, in some tents, even Wi-Fi. A tent that acts as a living and dining area serves as the centrepiece of the camp, opening onto a barren riverbed that now hosts a mobile pool, cold plunge and the perfect spot for a bush dinner, where we dine beneath the stars, our table lit by a flickering log fire. The camp’s remote location lends itself to a truly raw safari experience, which is perfectly encapsulated by the night-time visit we receive from a herd of elephants, who weave their way through our tents as we drift off to sleep. ‘At one with nature’ has never rung more true.
Book it: All-inclusive nightly rates start from $4,800 for one to four guests and $7,200 for five to six guests. Each additional adult then incurs a nightly rate of $1,120. All prices exclude a $185 per person per night conservancy fee.
