Review: New river vessel Viva Beyond

Location: Viva Beyond glides along the Seine, departing from Paris and traversing the Normandy ports of Rouen, Le Havre and Vernon. Clients can opt for one of three seven‑night itineraries centred around art, gastronomy and culture, as well as shorter journeys and seasonal sailings.

First impressions: The ship’s stylish aesthetic impresses, with subtle nods to French design in the form of art deco bannisters and floral carpets akin to paintings. My Double Cabin is understated and comfortable, albeit a little cramped, while public spaces feel intimate without being crowded.

The facts: As the debut vessel for Viva Cruises’ upscale Viva Boutique brand, Viva Beyond boasts 56 cabins, half of which are suites. Most accommodation features a French balcony, but it’s worth noting there are eight Double Cabins on the lower deck with a fixed window, which high-end clients may want to avoid. The premium options are the top-deck Beyond Suites, which are twice the size of the ship’s Double Cabins and grant guests additional perks, such as priority boarding and preferred tables at restaurants. Complimentary airport transfers will be offered from next year for Beyond Suite‑level guests. Dining feels elevated, with three refined restaurants serving polished, Frenchinspired fare, including the new Viva Boutique exclusive tasting menu concept Moments, alongside á la carte venues Viva’s Brasserie and Riverside. The ship’s airy sun deck provides a laid back social hub, complete with a small hot tub, miniature golf course and generous lounging areas ideal for scenic sailing days. There’s also a spa and gym.
