Location: A pristine slip of white sand on the Turks and Caicos Islands’ most famous beach sets the stage for Wymara Resort + Villas. Grace Bay Beach is a firm favourite among visitors to the archipelago’s main island, Providenciales – and this hotel gives guests a front-row seat. The property is located a 10-minute drive from Providenciales airport.

First impressions: Wymara’s white-washed, open-air lobby sets the tone for the rest of the resort, whose simple, sleek design seems rooted in letting its surroundings sing. The watery blues of the central pool and ocean and the pinks and greens of rambling bougainvillea positively pop against the hotel’s minimalist, ivory exterior. We check in next to the pool with a cooling towel and an alarmingly blue-hued rum cocktail and know we’re in for a treat.

The facts: Wymara Resort + Villas still looks fresh following an extensive renovation in November 2020. The four-acre property houses 94 rooms, suites and penthouses, the vast majority of which have ocean views. The studio categories are well designed but compact, so recommend one of the suites, which range in size from one to three bedrooms and feature fully equipped kitchens, open-plan living and dining areas, spacious balconies and washer/dryer machines. Clients could also opt for a penthouse, which includes a dedicated guest services manager, round-trip airport transfers for up to six guests and daily beach or pool cabanas. The resort features two restaurants: Indigo serves a decent international breakfast with various buffet stations as well as a Caribbean-inspired menu for dinner, while oceanside restaurant Blue Water Bistro (adjacent to the Pink Bar) offers relaxed sharing-style dishes such as pizza, tacos and salads. Guests tend to cluster around the central infinity-edged pool – bordered by sunloungers and palm trees and dotted with a collection of floating cabanas – or the beach, where staff can set you up on a lounger with towels and parasols.

Here clients will also be able to take part in watersports such as jetskiing, Hobie Cat sailing and clear-bottomed kayaking as well as private boat charters. Wellness awaits at the Wymara Spa, which offers organic and holistic signature treatments along with a relaxation garden and meditation space. There’s also a 24-hour fitness centre and yoga, barre and bootcamp classes available. Less than a 10-minute drive from the main property, Wymara offers 15 one, four, five and six-bedroom villas perched above the ocean. These ultra-luxury, private residences are ideal for families, large groups and those seeking additional levels of seclusion, boasting infinity pools, sunken fire pits and ample indoor and outdoor living space. Some even feature their own slide into the sea. Villa guests have access to the Sunset Cove Beach Club – home to a 25-metre lap pool, gym, sauna, steam room, Jacuzzi, sports courts and open-air games room – as well as Sunset Cove Beach, which boasts an ocean pool and beachfront Tiki Bar. Villas also come with an on-site manager, airport transfers, welcome refreshments and on-demand transportation to Wymara Resort, plus access to its amenities.

Ideal for: Located close to the airport and with an excellent beach, Wymara Resort + Villas is perfect for clients basing themselves in lively Providenciales or using the island as a stepping stone before venturing on to farther-flung isles.

Explore: Though busy and a little overbuilt, it’s hard not to be charmed by Providenciales. With some of the Caribbean’s clearest water and whitest sand, here it’s all about what’s beneath the waves. Some of the best beaches beyond Grace Bay include Leeward Beach, Long Bay Beach, Sapodilla Bay and Taylor Bay – head underwater to see fish, turtles, stingrays, eagle rays and small sharks. Turks and Caicos is also famous for its floating bars: don’t miss Noah’s Ark, located off the island’s northern shore, and Captain Oak’s Tiki Bar, a stone’s throw from Long Bay Beach.

Wow: Advise clients to wake up for sunrise and head to Grace Bay Beach for a swim in the warm sea. There has to be perks to paying the price tag for staying on this world-famous beach – and this is most certainly one of them.

Book it: A night in a Garden Studio in the main resort starts at £915.
