Virgin Hotels Collection appoints chief executive

Virgin Hotels Collection has announced Joe Margison as the group’s chief executive.

Margison held the role of interim chief executive since October 2025, following more than 10 years with Virgin Group during which he also served as chief commercial officer.

He brings more than 25 years of experience across investment, finance, real estate and branded business to the role, having previously held positions at the New Zealand Superannuation Fund and Ernst & Young.

The group said Margison’s appointment comes at a "significant" time for Virgin Hotels Collection, which encompasses lifestyle brand Virgin Hotels and luxury collection Virgin Limited Edition.

Together, the two brands have a portfolio of 16 properties across the US, Caribbean, Africa and Europe, with a pipeline of “landmark developments across key gateway cities and resort destinations”.

This includes recently announced Virgin Hotels Atlanta at Centennial Yards and Virgin Limited Edition’s upcoming property in Marrakech, both scheduled to open in 2027.

Margison said: “Having led the Virgin Hotels Collection team for seven months, I have seen first-hand the strength of this business and the opportunity ahead. Virgin Hotels and Virgin Limited Edition are distinct brands united by the same Virgin spirit – brilliant people, service with real warmth and character and experiences guests remember long after they leave.

“We have a strong foundation and a significant opportunity ahead. I’m excited to lead the business through its next chapter of growth.”
