Foreign Office updates travel advice amid fresh US-Iran strikes

The UK Foreign Office has updated its travel advice for a number of Middle Eastern destinations as the US-Iran conflict continues to escalate.

Iranian forces killed an Indian sailor in renewed strikes on tankers in the Strait of Hormuz overnight.

The attacks came as Iran came under fire from US troops for the third night in a row.

The FCDO issued updated advice on the ‘Warnings and Insurance’ section for the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

The advisory notes: “The US and Iran have announced a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in relation to the conflict in the Middle East. The situation remains unpredictable and attacks could resume at short notice.

“Iran has carried out further attacks on the region since the MOU was agreed,  and could do so again at short notice.”

It offers advice for British nationals “should hostilities resume” and adds: “Before the 8 April ceasefire, the Iranian regime had stated its intention to target locations in the Gulf associated with the US and Israel.

“This included US or Israeli-linked organisations, businesses, facilities and institutions.

“Iran has previously targeted civilian infrastructure across the region such as ports, hotels, roads, bridges, energy facilities, oil production sites, water systems, and airports.”
