Explora Journeys hints at growth amid rumours of river cruise expansion

The president of Explora Journeys has hinted the line may expand beyond the six-ship fleet it currently has planned amid rumours of an entry into river cruising.

Speaking to Aspire on board new vessel Explora III, Anna Nash said: “Our focus remains on our fleet of six ships, but maybe this is just the beginning.

“We can certainly see future opportunities ahead.”

The brand is supposedly eyeing a move into the river cruise market, according to a report from Italian maritime publication Shipping Italy.

When questioned about the rumours, Nash said Explora Journeys “can’t comment on speculation”.

Following a preview sailing for Explora III last week, the brand will complete its planned fleet with the launch of Explora IV, Explora V and Explora VI in summer 2027, winter 2027 and summer 2028 respectively.

During the sailing, the line announced it will start paying agents commission on shore excursions for the first time in its latest effort to support the trade.

Speaking about the news, Nash said: “I will always stand by our travel advisor community. They were with us before we even had ships in the water, and nothing is stronger than having somebody recommend our brand with confidence.”
