Kitirua Plains Lodge in Amboseli is expected to open in June 2026
Abercrombie & Kent Travel Group (AKTG) has revealed details of its third A&K Sanctuary property in Kenya, set to open on June 1, 2026.
Kitirua Plains Lodge is said to mark a “triumphant” return to Kenya for Abercrombie & Kent, six decades after the operator debuted its first-ever safari in the destination.
The property, located on a private 128-acre concession in the Amboseli region, will feature 13 standalone suites, including two two-bedroom options.
There will also be a spa, gym, swimming pool and outdoor dining space.
The lodge is one of the “most architecturally adventurous properties” in the A&K Sanctuary portfolio and will mark a “departure” from traditional tented safari camps.
Guests at Kitirua will be able to enjoy daily game drives in Amboseli National Park, home to elephants, lions and cheetahs, as well as cultural excursions with the local Maasai community, stargazing and hot-air balloon rides.
Cristina Levis, chief executive of AKTG, said: “Kitirua is a return to our roots and a bold leap forward.
“This is a property that honours our heritage whilst looking to the future, a celebration of place, people and the pioneering spirit that defines A&K. To open this lodge in Kenya, where our story began, feels like coming full circle.”
Kitirua Plains Lodge joins A&K Sanctuary’s other Kenyan properties, Olonana Lodge in the Masai Mara and Tambarare Camp in Ol Pejeta Conservancy, forming “a perfect circuit” for visitors to the country.
The news follows the announcement of the portfolio’s fifth Egypt-based riverboat, set to launch next year.
