Tom Westray told Leaders of Luxury delegates space travel will be a ‘game changer’
Virgin Galactic’s director of brand marketing and creative Tom Westray implored delegates at Aspire’s Leaders of Luxury conference to consider space travel, calling space “the ultimate travel destination”.
Fewer than 800 people have travelled to space, according to Westray, but “that simply won’t be the case” in 10 years’ time.
Speaking at the conference, he said: “I can say this very confidently and assertively, that in 2025, space is a travel destination.
“This is going to be something that totally changes the game in travel for the next five to 10 years. If travel is about absorbing our world in a different way, then I can guarantee space is the ultimate version of that.”
Westray said the company, which specialises in commercial space travel, has several hundred customers signed up, predicting that “many hundreds and thousands” of people will get the opportunity to travel to space over the coming years.
Recounting previous flights Virgin Galactic has operated, Westray described space travel as “life changing”, explaining how passengers have enjoyed a “profound and transformational” experience.
The marketing director also encouraged agents to take the opportunity to sell space travel as it begins to grow in popularity.
“You may know people who [get to travel to space] and, if you do, we’d love you to join the journey,” he said. “We’re very much looking for people who would love to go into space and also people who want to partner with us.”
