A 166-key hotel will open in Xi’an in 2029
Mandarin Oriental is set to open a property in northwestern China in 2029.
Located in the city of Xi’an, the opening marks the group’s first urban resort in the region.
Mandarin Oriental Xi’an will feature 166 rooms and suites with outdoor terraces, alongside seven villas offering private pools.
There will be five dining venues, including a Chinese restaurant serving locally inspired dishes.
The spa will offer the brand’s signature wellness, beauty and massage treatments as well as a range of holistic wellness programmes. It will also feature a 50-metre indoor-outdoor infinity pool, children’s pool and a collection of hot spring pavilions.
Additional guest spaces include indoor and outdoor children’s facilities, an art and culture gallery, a library, a boutique and entertainment areas.
Mandarin Oriental currently operates nine properties across Greater China, with additional hotels expected to open in Hangzhou and Nanjing later this year as well as a property in Suzhou in 2026.
The group’s chief executive Laurent Kleitman said: “We are thrilled to bring Mandarin Oriental’s legendary service and immersive wellness ethos to Xi’an. This is more than a hotel, it is an urban retreat that honours the city’s historic grandeur while setting a new standard in wellness and cultural storytelling.
“Xi’an fits perfectly into our China strategy and our plans to further grow our portfolio over the next 10 years. This resort reflects our focus on growing in iconic leisure destinations, where guests can enjoy experiences that feel both immersive and timeless.”
General manager of the project’s partner real estate developer, Xi’an Wolong Real Estate, Xudong Zi, added: “We are proud to partner with Mandarin Oriental to bring a new era of luxury hospitality to Xi’an. Our shared vision, supported by Qujiang Government, is to create a destination that harmonises the city’s heritage, natural beauty and contemporary design, setting a new standard for experiential travel in China.
“With Mandarin Oriental’s expertise in crafting exceptional guest experiences, we are confident this project will become a defining landmark for Xi’an and source of pride for the local community.”
