We’ve been told this evening’s dinner will take place next to the ocean, but not much more than that. However, based on our first impressions of Grecotel’s Corfu Imperial, I suspect it’s going to be pretty amazing. And pretty amazing it is.
We’re led to the far edge of the resort, where open-air dining venue Yali Seafood is suspended above the water, as if perfectly resting on the gentle waves. The unmistakable aroma of a barbecue drifts towards us from the beach below, the grilled goodies complemented by a fresh buffet of salads and sushi, along with trays of champagne awaiting our arrival.
From a sofa at the edge of the deck, I watch as the late-evening sun transforms the sky into a canvas of dusty blues and warm yellows, a ribbon of orange resting across the horizon, reminiscent of the hue of the Aperol spritz that I have in my hand.
I’ve been a lover of Greece for as long as I can remember, and in this moment, I remember exactly why: hospitality, food and scenery just don’t get better than in this beguiling corner of the Mediterranean.
