SLH tips Mexico, the Caribbean and Ibiza as key destinations for 2017
Dec 07, 2016 04:30PM

Mexico is poised to be Small Luxury Hotels of the World's biggest hotel destination for 2017.

The hotel group announced the introduction of eight new Mexican properties at a media lunch at the International Luxury Travel Market (ILTM) this week.

The hotels added to the portfolio include Stara Hamburgo and Stars San Angel Inn, both in Mexico City; Chable Spa & Resort, Yucatan and Mar Adentro, Los Cabos.

Four Tulum properties have also been added: Mezzanine Hotel, El Pez Boutique Hotel, La Zebra Beach Hotel & Restaurant, and Mi Amor Boutique Hotel & Spa.

Filip Boyen, chief executive of Small Luxury Hotels of the World (SLH) said: "(These properties) bring a new luxury standard to the hotel landscape since almost all of them are born out of passion projects from individuals who come from various non-hospitality backgrounds but are brimming with creative aspiration."

The eight Mexican properties join 49 hotels around the world who have joined SLH this head.

Also poised for success in 2017, according to SLH executives, is the Caribbean and Ibiza.

Five of these are Caribbean hotels - French Coco, Martinique; Le Barthelemy Hotel and Spa, St Barthelemy; The Reef By CuisinArt, Anguilla; The Manoah Boutique Hotel, also in Anguilla; Paradise Beach Nevis in St Kitts and Nevis; and Point Grace Resort & Spa in Turks and Caicos.

SLH also tips island escapes as being big for luxury travel in 2017, including Fiji, Greece and Nicaragua.

Tim Davis, vice president of brand and marketing, also positioned Ibiza as being popular for 2017.

He said the destination was the firms most "unfulfilled destination" over the past six years, with customers searching for the destination without results.

"Ibiza is the most searched for destination on SLH.com but it's also the most unfulfilled one. We are very selective about the properties that join the brand so we've been waiting for the right property to come along. This changes next year when we welcome our first Ibizan property - Ibiza Bay," he added.

The 152 key hotel will open in May with four restaurants and bars and a spa.
